Luna - Cloud Gaming Service

Luna is available on; Windows PC, Mac, Fire TV, Fire tablets, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad, and Android phones. With Luna Controller talking directly to the cloud, there is no need for device-specific setup, making it easy to transition your game from one screen to the next. Luna also supports controllers like Xbox One, Playstation 4, and mouse + keyboard.

In today's review let's talk about Amazon Luna, as it almost year and a half of the launch of Amazon Luna and a lot has happened in that last year and a half. The service has added a bunch of new games the platform has added access to new channels and Amazon has added some new features to the service as well and you know being someone who has used Amazon Luna for almost a year and a half, now I thought it would be extremely beneficial to bundle up that entire last year and a half.

Let's discuss my experience along with diving into some of the things that i think definitely need to change for Amazon Luna and seeing that this is a video game streaming service probably the best place to start is, by talking about video games. Amazon Luna is currently home to over 150 games however how you access those games depends on which subscription you have, right now Amazon offers three different channels to subscribe to Luna+, Amazon's family channel and Ubisoft +, each of these channels have unique games and their own price tag. However, once you subscribe to one of these channels you have access to the entire library included for $5.99 a month.

  • Luna+ has over 99 games including Alien:Isolation, Call of the Sea, Dirt 5, Ghost Runner, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Resident Evil, Biohazard, Smite: The Falconer, Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4, 2 Point Hospital and Yakuza 0.
  • Amazon's Family Channel offers over 30 games for $2.99 a month and that includes family-friendly games like Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, Skateboard, Snake Pass, Transformers: Battlegrounds, Troll Hunters: Defenders of Arcadia, Dreamworks dragons, Dawn of New Riders, Overcooked and LTO and for $17.99 a month.
  • Ubisoft+ offers immediate access to over 42 games including their DLC, Ubisoft+ is currently home to games like Far Cry 6, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, The Division, Rainbow Six Siege and Watch Dogs: Legion

And you know in an ideal world I would love to have access to all of these games in one subscription, but that isn't what Luna is going for here. In fact for me, I think that their family channel is one of the most intriguing and competitive subscriptions on the market today. Like when you think about how many families have embraced the Amazon Ecosystem and have things like Fire TVs, Fire Sticks and Fire Tablets. Having a cheap monthly subscription that offers a library of games, that your kids can stream to those devices, is extremely appealing. Specially when you know that the $299 family channel won't include games that are over the age rating of E10+. Which brings us to another important point since the launch of Luna they have expanded their support for devices, making luna more accessible than ever. Right now Luna can be played on Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, the Toshiba and Insignia Fire TVs, Fire Tablets, Android devices and pretty much any other device that has a web browser, including the iPhone and iPad. And in the last year you know I've tried to experience Amazon Luna running on as many of these devices as possible. But out of all of these devices. We have played Luna on, I definitely have to say, the Fire HD10 Tablet and the Insignia Fire TV were probably my favorite and I want to be clear, Luna runs extremely well on any of these devices. But the overall experience especially with playing games on the HD10 Tablet that was like $80 is hard to beat.

Now outside of new games and new supported devices Amazon has also added a brand new feature to the platform called Luna Cloud and in its simplest form. Luna Cloud is a new way to play together, essentially Luna Cloud allows 4 players to play multiplayer games on Luna without being in the same room. A luna player can host a session and share the link with other players who can then click that link enter in a code and immediately jump into that gaming session. And probably the coolest detail of this entire situation is that the other player doesn't have to have a Luna subscription and you know looking back at the last 12 months, I think that Amazon has made a compelling case for people to check out the platform.

That being said i definitely do think that there are things that Luna could do to improve the platform, and probably the biggest is expansion. Right now luna is only available in the United States!! Stadia, Xbox cloud gaming and Geforce now are available in far more countries. And I think the best thing that amazon could do for the service is, expand its availability into new territories. And the second thing that i think Amazon can improve on is, offer some type of membership or discount for Amazon Prime members. Amazon definitely flirted with this idea when they offered prime members the ability to play certain games, without needing a Luna+ subscription but if I could bundle in Luna with my yearly prime membership, similar to the way that Prime TV works. Well then that's just one less subscription for me to worry about and that would be awesome and I guess the final thing and this is a big one, but Luna please let me buy video games!! And while this kind of goes against Amazon's current business model for Luna, I think having the ability to buy games and play them on Luna has huge potential. Like imagine going to Amazon.com to buy the latest AAA game, that released this week and while you're checking out it says, 'hey do you want to receive this game for playstation and xbox in two days? thanks to Amazon prime' or 'would you like to play this game instantly with zero installs? thanks to amazon luna'. A feature like that would revolutionize the way that people are currently playing video games, but again overall I think that it has been a pretty solid year for Amazon Luna and I look forward to few months extremely optimistic on the potential for luna. But what do you all think? What is your personal experience been like with Amazon Luna? Do you like it? Do you have a suggestion for year two let me know your thoughts in the comment section down below!!! And you will find the link below to Amazon Luna.
